Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a lenticular galaxy located 220 million light years away in the constellation of Delphinus at a declination of +16 degrees.  This galaxy spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 140,000 light years, a bit larger than our Milky Way.

The constellation of Delphinus contains only a few decent galaxies.  This is one of the better ones, though not exactly spectacular.  It is interesting, though, because it contains at least 3 dark dust bands outside of the core area.  I have never seen this before.  It is not often that I see a galaxy that reminds me of Saturn.

The galaxy is adjacent to a 15 or so star asterism known as the Toadstool, for obvious reasons.  The colorful stars range from 9 to 13th magnitude.  I generally am not fond of nicknames, but this one seems appropriate to me.
